Background: On October 31, 2008, Medicare released an unofficial advance copy of the Final Rule that contains more changes to the beneficiary signature requirements contained in 42 CFR §424.36. The “official” version of this rule was published in the Federal Register on November 19, 2008, with an effective date of January 1, 2009.
The Final Rule contains several key revisions to the existing signature rule – and, for a change, these changes are good news for the ambulance industry. Ambulance services will have to make a few modifications to their current signature forms in response to this rule and the industry will have to become familiar with these changes in time for their January 1, 2009 implementation.
