This session will provide guidance for writing the compliance plan and code of conduct along with an overview of key compliance policies.

Afternoon Sessions:

Conducting a Risk Assessment: This session will discuss methodologies for assessing compliance risk areas and walk through a step by step process for conducting a risk assessment.

Responding to Complaints and Misconduct: This session will cover the importance of timely response to compliance complaints and concerns including establishing reporting mechanisms, investigating and responding to compliance complaints and policy enforcement.

Agency Compliance:

This session will provide an overview of licensure and enrollment issues, the importance of verifying credentials and checking the OIG's Exclusions List, and establishing a culture of compliance.

Documenting Compliance Activities:

This session will cover the importance evaluating your compliance program, what the government means by an "effective compliance program", and how to properly document compliance activities.

Day 2 - Documentation

Morning Sessions:

Documentation Training with a focus on specificity for ICD-10:

This session is a comprehensive and in-depth documentation training workshop for EMS providers of all levels. This program builds critical skills among EMS providers in writing effective patient care reports that will withstand legal scrutiny and support prompt and accurate billing decisions. Areas covered include the uses of EMS documentation in court cases, effective charting formats, and understanding the impact of medical necessity, billing rules and ICD-10 requirements on both emergency and non-emergency documentation.

Afternoon Sessions:

Documentation Issues- Root Causes of EMS Liability:  This session will explore the relationship between documentation and EMS provider liability. Using actual legal case studies, this program will uncover the root cause of what leads to "bad documentation" and provide practical tips to improve not just your field documentation skills but your overall approach to patient care as well.

Mock Cross Exam:  This interactive session will demystify the process of testifying in court, and include a live demonstration of a cross examination of an EMS provider in a lawsuit to help underscore the importance of effective and complete documentation.

Top 10 Phrases of Rejection:  Some phrases are commonly used on ambulance PCRs, but add nothing to painting an accurate and complete picture of the patient's clinical condition. Worse yet, these phrases are often cited by Medicare claim reviewers as a key factor in denying a claim for payment. This session will review the top 10 phrases of rejection and provide strategies for improving the specificity of documentation and more accurate and descriptive PCRs.
